Geocache: magnetic plastic nano

When it comes to urban caches, most of the time the best option is a nano. In areas where you do not have many cachers, they could last months without any maintenance.

The below example is based on an idea I saw somewhere online. I continuously had issues with how to cover the small magnet and also keep it waterproof, just in case.

Nano with a magnet
The solutuion above is a heat shrink tube. First you need to stick the magnet to the plastic vial. Then pull the heat shrink tube over. Then you need to heat it up till it is tight. The only issue I ran into was that mine was too small, so I first had to make it a bit bigger. If you have a bit bigger tube that is easy to pull over with the magnet in it, you can skip the step with sticking the magnet to the vial.

If you have a store close by where they sell these heat shrink tubes you have a chance of finding all different colors, which could be useful to better match the color of the location where you plan to hide it.

I use neodium magnets, the one on the picture is 6x4x1.5mm only, and it holds this nano strong enough to survive any weather condition we have in Europe.
