Geocache: Somewhere at the end of all roads

Image
To get to this geocache I had to get off all the main roads. It was at the end of a small village, somewhere you would have no reason to drive to otherwise. Out if its hiding place The was this geocache was hidden is really nice. There was this electric pole left behind after putting a new line in place and it was behind a small rusty door hanging into a pipe. The hint was simple look for the gray wire. The road to nowhere??? As you can see this was a forgotten place, even the road leading to the village was already in such a bad condition that I felt sorry for my rental car, if it was my own car I would have driven super slow. The full picture of the geocache out of its hiding place When I arrived to the geocache, I passed by an elderly lady, I was not sure where she was heading, but parked quickly and found and signe before she caught up with me. Only the wire is visible and it is the only gray wire there ... As I started taking more pictures so I can show you

Geocache: Must be busy in summer

Image
Earlier I was blogging about some geocaches which could use a changing difficulty or terrain settings. This is also one of those geocaches. The geocache taken out of its hiding place... Yeah I know if you take a look at the geocache itself why would I say it is one of those geocaches which are hard to pick up on some days and no problem on other? So in the autumn, winter there is not a single muggle in the area, but in the summer I am sure they are all over the place. Parking is not a problem at this geocache ... ... not a problem at this time of the year, a huge parking lot and not a single car, but I'm sure there is hard to find a slot in the summer on a sunny day. Why, why? you might ask ... Ok, there is a beach right next to it with all the fun for kids and adults. A picture of the strand taken from the car while driving away ... Just imagine how busy it is in the summer, back when I was a kid there were no such place anywhere close to where I grew up, lucky f

Geocache: My life in danger

Image
Who said geocaching cannot be dangerous? On my last trip to Hungary I decided to slowly find all geocaches in the area where I need to go every quarter. The geocaches are not located to close to each others and in many cases you need to drive more than ten minutes to find one. This one showed up on the map just recently and I was even hoping to get a FTF, but I was late for that. The geocache hiding in the tree The location is at a memorial place for a huge battle in the Hungarian history. I was thinking on placing one geocache here as well, but as it is a bit further away from the place I lodge I decided I first place geocaches closer, and then one day I see it showing up... Cool, I was happy to see. Now let's get bck to the life danger I had to face. Danger!!! In case you don't understand Hungarian the big sign says: "Accident hazard visit only on your own risk!" and the small sign on the right: "Life danger". I was not alone, we arrived, and f

Geocache: Along M3 - another highway hide

Image
If you travel the same route long enough to get bored with it, there is nothing better than changing the stops or adding some at least once in a while. I regularly need to drive from the airport at Budapest to Tiszaújváros and so far most of the geocaches along this route (M3) is represented as a smiley on my geocaching map. A magnetic PET preform This geocache is a bit off my regular route. So this is how it happened, while driving there is this huge intersection where you need to exit towards M0 and the airport. I was driving then there was this huge traffic jam where I was just driving with the speed I could have walked. Then I was so concentrated on the traffic jam that when it ended I forgot to take the exit, so I kept on driving towards the city center of Budapest. Yes, it is hiding there... Missing the exit is usually coming with some extra miles and time but as I was not in any hurry I did not really mind it, so I pulled down to the filling station. Then the lights

Geocache: Built in tablet holder

Image
How often do you come across a geocache where you can safely put down your oversized navigation system you might be using? In my case I just love to go geocaching with my tablet. Before you ask it is due to my age which means my vision is getting worse and not to support the progress I prefer something bigger and more visible. The geocache is hiding under the branches, and see my tablet... This geocache I found on a business trip to Hungary on the way home. I left the hotel early morning to finish up the shopping list I got from the family and then took the longest way to the airport and even when I was so close I did not go in, but searched for many around it. Driving on dirt road all around. Nice tablet holder there... Geocaches in woods can be challenging, and if you want to go fast with them go to the woods when most or all the leaves are already on the ground as they really can mess your GPS coordinates up while up on the trees. This one at this time of the year was a

Geocache: Big Birds

Image
When they talk over big birds they mean airplanes. This is one of the oldest geocaches I found, to be more accurate it is so far my second oldest and at the time it was the first geocache I found that was hidden in 2001. The geocache hidden under a brick... On this cold day in November before heading to the airport I decided to do some geocaching and at the same time let me also fill some of the missing cells on the hidden month matrix. In case you are not aware of that you can check my stats at  Project-gc , scroll down to Finds by hidden month area. That is what I was after on this trip, get one ore two filled in there. I was also missing most days in November so I also added to that matrix. November in the Netherland and most of Europe is not the best weather to go out and do anything, it is too rainy and windy. I know it should not stop us, but mostly this month is full with activities at home and at work. Now it is invisible, but it is under that brick... When I read

Geocache: Budapest Border Trail #1

Image
Some cities have a border trail, they are a kind of trails where they place the geocaches around a city's border. Now that itself is interesting, when you have a bigger city, but how about around a capital of a country. Now that is something, but believe or not it is well maintained after 6 years out in the wild. The trail has hundreds of geocaches along all different areas. Relax, I won't share each and every piece of them I find as that could be boring after a few finds, but I will show some of the hides in my blogposts. Geocache in the tree... As many of the European trails this one also have a lots of pet preforms. I also use them to hide, but I prefer to enhance them a bit not just put them out there. Some of the geocaches are mistery hides with easier like add this and that to the coord and you have the final and some with more difficult ways to get the final coords. They are placed on the map to follow the border of Budapest, but on areas where placing out the ge

Geocache: To hide in the woods

Image
I had some extra minutes during my weekend and I decided to use the new duck tape I just brought back from Memphis. Camouflaged for the woods I saw this duck tape used on many geocaches in the USA, so I was sure it is something easy to buy, but I could not find it any stores. On my last trip to Memphis I decided I will look into many different and cheap stores as well. After three days searching I finally found one and only one roll in a dollar store. Now I have the brand, it is  duckbrand.com . I visited their site and could not find this pattern anywhere, so I'll have to keep on finding this in dollar stores I guess. If you know any better source do not hesitate let me know. So here is what I used for the above two geocaches: Materials used The tape itself is not the best glued one, but with some help it sticks perfectly. What I did was to put that wire around the neck of the containers then cover both fully with the duck tape starting at the top and bottom and then
