Geocache: Autobahn cache #4

Image
And the day came again... I was traveling through Germany and this time on a route I never took before. As it was not me driving I could not pick the stops but I was lucky enough that we stopped at a few places where I could search for a geocache. This was one of them. A magnetic film canister When I found it I was not sure why the magnet was needed, but I found some good use for it at least while I made this picture. On long trips along the autobahn and any other highways it is always good it you can stop to search for a geocache, that is a perfect reason to move a little bit, and in some cases it also make the stop more then jump out of the car turn left turn right stretch jump back and continue. On this trip as I was just a passanger and the driver was always in a rush and the only reason he was to stop was to smoke, that was limiting the search time to around 2 minutes and I had to pick go to the restroom, get a drink or find a geocache. It was not always the easiest pick a...

Geocache: Autobahn cache #3

Driving on A3 in Germany is not always fun, so far I cannot recall when the whole autobahn was without any closed lane, the only fun you can count on is that there are many geocaches hidden along this autobahn. Tiny film box on the rock. Most autobahn geocaches are placed with the intention of park and grab; just like this one. In some cases they are planned to be P&G but the coordinates are a bit off or your GPS is showing wrong coordinates. That is not a big problem unless the parking you stopped is full with muggles. When we pulled into this parking I did not even know if there was a geocache, I just felt tired and my eyes needed some rest. We parked I saw a few muggles, rested a bit and wait a second... We mostly stop at big parking lots and the chance of stopping at this same again is really low, so let me quickly take a look around. My lucky day again, we parked less than 20 meters from the geocache. The rocks, one of them gives shades to the geocache. Also lucky ...

Geocache: Filling station off the autobahn

If you travel a lot in Germany and you want to save real euros you must know that with a few extra minutes the fuel prices can be a lot lower. All you need to do is get off the autobahn and fill up your car at a filling station that is not on the autobahn. Mostly we do not do this as we have a lot more kilometers to go, but this time due to nature call my daughter wanted to get to the next filling station, and this came up. We rolled off the highway, and as it was a lot cheaper we filled up the tank, got a small hot breakfast and of course checked if there is any geocache close by. And there was one. The geocache is it is found. Wow, when you first look at it, just there, that's it. How? Why is it not muggled? The log had multiple entries, many of them. See the geocache? and the truck parking close to it? One of the reasons why it might be there is that most probably the workers at the filling station know about it, and they do not disturb while cutting the grass next t...

Geocache: Autobahn cache #2

Give me a reason to stop while driving 160km/h on the german highway. A geocache is a perfect reason, in most case you cannot park next to the container so that will also make you do some excercise. They say you have to stop regularly, move you body to stay awake and be alert. Nowadays I just try to have some geocaches on the route we drive, this one was one of them. The geocache under a brick. I have to say it was really nicely done, at first I just walked by the hide, but then as there was no trivial hiding place I started to look under different objects. Under some stairs... The location is well picked for this geocache, not many muggle would come around here and most of them might be here to maintain what is in the building, and they will be in a hurry so won't start turning objects upside-down. Not an object to stop to look at for sure. The idea behind geocaching is to see places you would not otherwise, but some places you won't find anything you reall...

Geocache: Autobahn cache

On a long trip from the Netherlands to Hungary we took A3 in Germany. Thanks to the local geocachers there are more and more geocaches on the autobahn. On each trip we try to pick one or two. The geocahce taken out of the pipe. We stopped for getting a drink for my daughter and a coffee for myself. A quick check and this is my lucky day; there is a geocache at the end of the parking and as logs show it was found recently. A huge truck was shadowing the location so no muggle can see us. Not even the truck driver as his cabin was covered with curtains; must be asleep. Not much search was needed there was a green line going under one of the caps on the traffic sign. I quickly took it out and then signed and took the pictures. The container back in its hiding place. Then we were on the autobahn again... so the story did not end there... as I was driving the navigation started to tell me there is a traffic jam on the road ahead, ok show me... at next exit leave th...
