Geocache: Along the river Meuse (Maas)

Till today I did not know the English name of this river runnig across Rotterdam. One day we decided to search for as many geocaches as we can on an island in the middle of Rotterdam on the river Meuse, it wall went fine, then when I decided to write this blog about it I had to realize I have no clue how it is called in English, so I'll be honest I looked it up.

The geocache
As you can see there is not much to talk about the geocache itself, it is one of those plastic bags with a log sheet in it and that's all. Hidden in a tree. Why would anyone hide it like this? See the pictures below?

The view from the geocache
As you can see it has a nice view to the north part of Rotterdam from here. We lived in the Netherlands for almost ten years by the time we came to find this geocache and this one the first time we had a chance to look at Rotterdam from this angle. Really nice.

Unilver, an interesting building
The geocache is placed here to mark the building of Unilever here on the island. What is nice about the building is that the company needed more space but the old houses below had to stay. So many old buildings were lost in the second world war that they try keep all they have, which is a good thing. Life has to go on, companies need place to manufacture so they came up with a plan to build over, and here we go. This building we were watching from the north part of Rotterdam all the time and never had a reason to come over and check closer.

The building is standing on sticks
I'm not sure I would feel secure up there or especially living under it, but I'm also sure they did all the calculations properly as this building is standing there since I first visited the Netherlands.

A bridge, is it in use?
There are two important things on the above picture, the first one is that bridge. I never saw it down, it seems it is not in use any longer, but they keep it there as it belongs to the scenery, or I could be completely wrong and unlucky and never drove by when it was down.
The other important thing is our geocaching mobile, it also has a travel bug on the back of it. When we got it and put it on days passed by then one morning while I was taking my daughter to school, it was one of those "Daddy, I do not feel like cycling today ..." days and as she goes to the next small town we have to go around a few roundabouts to get there and in one of them the car behind me kept on coming closer and before I got home my phone signalled me that there is an email, so while preparing my coffee I read it, wow the car that I did not understand why tailing me so hard wanted to see the code on our bug. I recommend when choosing a bug for your car, go for the biggest letters possible, that helps others. Since then many geocachers saw us, during geocaching trips, or just shopping, and especially when we attend bigger events, and the parking lots has hundreds of bugs in them.

Let me thank to the CO for this hide, it gave us the reason to come on this small island, see Rotterdam from here and also enjoy the view on the river Meuse (Maas in Dutch).
